Hikers Relying on Google Gemini Struggle on California Mountain

Three hikers were rescued from California's Mount Shasta after relying on Google Gemini to plan their expedition. The group, described as relatively inexperienced, used the AI service to choose their route and determine what equipment and supplies to take.

The men expected the climb to take about eight hours but ended up spending roughly 16 hours reaching the summit. They reached the top at around 7 pm, well after the recommended turnaround time of daylight hours. The group attempted to descend in darkness, becoming lost and injuring one member's knee in the process.

They spent the night on the mountain before being rescued by US Forest Service personnel and volunteers. Local reporting indicates that the group brought too little food and water for the conditions, with authorities warning visitors not to rely solely on artificial intelligence when planning mountain trips.
