Home Depot Aims for 15 Million Career Introductions with New Training Program
The Home Depot and its foundation have launched Path to Pro Skills Explorers, a free, hands-on training program aimed at introducing middle and high school students (ages 11-17) to high-demand construction careers. By 2032, the initiative aims to provide 15 million introductions to skilled trades careers.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there will be 4.1 million construction skilled trades jobs available over the next decade. However, only 6% of young people are currently interested in entering these fields, as per a study conducted by the National Association of Home Builders.
The program was developed in partnership with Scouting America and piloted with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. It equips teachers, parents, and community mentors with turn-key modules to teach foundational skills in areas such as woodworking, plumbing, electrical, and painting.
