Home Depot Breaks Ground in Wesley Chapel, Bringing Big-Box Retail to SR 56
Wesley Chapel is getting its first big-box home improvement store as Home Depot breaks ground on an 11.47-acre site near Pondside Drive along State Road 56. The project, which has been in the works for years, will bring a much-needed retail option to the area and provide a significant boost to local economic development.
The new Home Depot location, expected to span roughly 107,000 square feet, including an outdoor garden center of about 28,000 square feet, is situated directly across from Tampa Premium Outlets. The project still needs to move through Pasco County's site plan and permitting review before construction can begin.
The arrival of Home Depot in Wesley Chapel has been long-awaited by residents, who have had to travel to neighboring Zephyrhills or New Tampa for home improvement supplies. Site plans filed by Bohler Engineering show a store with 350 parking spaces, which is expected to alleviate some of the traffic congestion along SR 56.
Pasco County commissioners voted 3-0 to approve a major expansion of the Two Rivers development further down the corridor earlier this month, adding thousands more homes and a planned surf park to the area. The county will need to address infrastructure concerns as growth continues to stack up along SR 56.
