Home Depot Detention Incident Sparks Panic Among Day Laborers

Pro-immigration groups gathered outside Home Depot in Concord on Thursday to protest what they say was the detention of four day laborers. According to activists, federal agents were involved, but the agencies most likely responsible, ICE and CBP, denied any involvement.

The Concord Immigrants Protections Network claimed that a witness provided them with a video showing what appeared to be federal agents detaining the four day laborers at a Home Depot parking lot. The activist group also stated that witnesses told one of their volunteers that the men were taken into unmarked SUVs.

However, when contacted by NBC Bay Area's sister station Telemundo 48, both ICE and CBP denied making the arrests. Activists say that regardless of which agency was involved, the incident has caused panic among the day laborer community.
