Home Depot Foundation Renovates Detroit Fire Department Outdoor Space
The Detroit Fire Department and the Detroit Public Safety Foundation have partnered with The Home Depot Foundation to renovate Engine 55's outdoor space. The project, which was made possible by a nearly $20,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation, aims to create a welcoming area for firefighters and EMS personnel to relax and recharge between emergency calls.
The renovation includes a new gazebo, metal picnic tables, benches, Adirondack chairs, and a grill area complete with a new grill, flattop, and grill table. A new shed has also been added, painted fire-engine red and outfitted with heavy-duty shelving. Volunteers helped clean up and improve the landscaping on the west side of the firehouse.
The project is a testament to the power of community partnerships and the importance of showing appreciation for first responders. The renovation was made possible by 30 volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to bring the project to life, assembling furniture, building the gazebo, painting the shed, and tackling landscaping improvements.
