Home Depot Tightens Return Policy on Select Products
Home Depot has revised its return policy for certain products, affecting customers who regularly shop at the home improvement store. The changes aim to prevent abuse of the return policy, particularly with seasonal items or high-value goods.
The new rules apply to holiday decorations, which must now be returned within 30 days and remain unused. Additionally, Home Depot has shortened the return window for air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and gas generators to seven days. Pumps, portable evaporation products, and portable heaters will also have a seven-day return period effective from July 2026.
For most merchandise, the store's typical 90-day return policy remains in place. However, customers with Home Depot consumer credit cards or commercial accounts may enjoy an extended one-year return window for certain purchases.
The updated policies are likely intended to deter shoppers from buying items with the intention of returning them after a short period. While no official statement has been issued by Home Depot, industry experts suggest that this move aims to prevent scams and abuse of the return policy.
