Homeowner Splits with Contractor Over Inflated Mini-Split Recharge Bill
A Sierra Nevada homeowner is questioning a hefty mini-split recharge bill after discovering an 18-pound refrigerant fee, which commentators claim is inflated by over $1,100.
The homeowner had initially hired a Home Depot subcontractor to install the Mitsubishi mini-split system but later experienced issues with it. After asking for documentation on how the refrigerant charge was calculated, the installer claimed they didn't have any records.
A second contractor was hired under a time-and-materials agreement without providing an estimate beforehand. The invoice arrived, and upon reviewing it, commentators pointed out two discrepancies: labor time and refrigerant quantity. It appears that the homeowner paid for 18 pounds of R-410 instead of just over 1 pound.
