Honeywell Aerospace to Pay $2.04 Million Over Cybersecurity Failures in DOD Contract

Honeywell Aerospace Inc., a Phoenix-based company that provides aerospace products and solutions to government and commercial customers, has agreed to pay $2.04 million to settle allegations of failing to comply with cybersecurity requirements in a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense.

The settlement resolves claims that from April 2020 through December 2023, Honeywell's business unit submitted false claims for payment by not meeting the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-171 cybersecurity requirements on one of its networks as required by the contract.

The allegations arose from a whistleblower lawsuit filed under the False Claims Act, which allows private citizens to sue on behalf of the government and share in any recovery. The whistleblower, Rachel Tenney, a former Honeywell employee, will receive $375,823 as her share of the settlement.
