Padres Add Depth with Right-Hander Signings

The Padres' minor league system continues to see new additions as they seek to build depth in their rotation. Right-hander Brent Honeywell Jr., who pitched for the Padres in 2023, has signed a minor league deal and made his second appearance for Triple-A El Paso this week. In two innings of relief, he allowed one run while striking out two and throwing 24 of his 30 pitches for strikes.

Honeywell, 31, hasn't pitched in the majors since winning a World Series with the Dodgers in 2024. He's a former top prospect with the Rays who has seen more time in the majors with the Padres than any other team. In 46⅔ innings with the Padres in 2023, he had a 4.05 ERA.

In related news, right-hander JP France has allowed 11 runs, seven earned, in 9⅓ innings across nine relief appearances with El Paso since signing a minor league deal last month. France, also 31, had a 7.00 ERA over the last three years before being cut by the Astros this summer.
