Honeywell Boosts F-35 Cooling Capacity with New Upgrade

Honeywell Aerospace has developed an upgrade for the F-35 fighter jet's cooling system to meet increasing demand from new sensors, mission systems, and computing hardware.

The P40 upgrade increases the aircraft's Power and Thermal Management System (PTMS) capacity by 25 percent, from about 32 kilowatts to 40 kilowatts.

This is expected to enter service between 2029 and 2030. Honeywell claims that this upgrade will allow operators to retain existing repair facilities, tooling, and technical expertise while avoiding the need for a new thermal-management system.
