Honeywell Proposes P40 Upgrade for F-35's PTMS Amid Cooling Capacity Demands

Honeywell Aerospace is proposing an upgrade for its Power and Thermal Management System (PTMS) on the Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter. The proposed upgrade, dubbed P40, would increase the cooling capacity of the PTMS by 25 percent to 40 kilowatts (kW).

This comes as dozens of new weapons and sensors are being added to the F-35, including the AN/APG-85 radar by Northrop Grumman. These additions will likely increase the cooling demands on the fighter.

The P40 upgrade is touted as requiring no airframe modifications, making it a more efficient and streamlined process for implementation.
