Honeywell Sues Rivian and Lucid Over Patent Infringement Claims
Honeywell Aerospace has taken Rivian and Lucid to court over patent infringement. The company claims that both electric vehicle makers are using patented technologies without permission, including safety monitoring, autonomous navigation, and software licensing management. Honeywell argues that its intellectual property rights cover ground vehicles as well as aviation. The patents in question originated from Honeywell's aerospace business.
The lawsuits were filed on September 18 in federal court in Arizona (Rivian) and the Eastern District of Texas (Lucid). Honeywell is seeking damages, an injunction, attorneys' fees, enhanced damages for willful infringement, and a jury trial. This move comes less than three months after Honeywell Aerospace spun off from Honeywell International as its own public company.
