Hooker Exec Outlines Data-Driven Marketing Strategy at Home Furnishings Alliance Conference
Cameron Cook Sellers, vice president of marketing and communications at Hooker Furnishings, shared her vision for data-driven marketing strategies at the American Home Furnishings Alliance's 2026 Marketing and PR Conference.
Sellers emphasized that marketers have an abundance of tools and ideas but struggle to connect these resources to business decisions. She highlighted the importance of looking beyond home furnishings for best-in-class marketing strategies, citing companies like Amazon, Apple, Nike, Skims, Sephora, Ulta Beauty, Lowe's, and Home Depot.
Sellers' team studies major brand moves by attempting to reconstruct the strategy behind them. They examine signals from various sources, including websites, purchase patterns, customer care, net promoter scores, competitors, and cultural moments. However, she cautioned that data alone is not enough; marketers must also determine what business problem they are trying to change.
The goal of Sellers' approach is to connect marketing to business results by evaluating the department's output, customer behavior, and changes in the business. Her team reviews this cycle weekly rather than waiting until a campaign has ended, with the aim of making marketing work smarter by delivering better results to the bottom line.
