HouseCanary Seeks Bankruptcy Protection Amid Lender's Expedited Foreclosure Attempt
HouseCanary, a key partner in Google's national rollout of home listing ads, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company and five affiliated companies filed voluntary petitions Tuesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.
The lead debtor is HouseCanary New Jersey Inc., which cited a lender's expedited foreclosure attempt as the reason for the filing. According to court documents, the bankruptcy cases were commenced quickly following efforts by a lender to foreclose on one of the Debtors' assets on an expedited basis.
HouseCanary has asked the court for additional time to file detailed schedules of its assets, liabilities and financial affairs, citing the speed of the filing and complexity of its operations. The company maintains extensive records involving thousands of creditors and counterparties.
The bankruptcy comes just months after HouseCanary emerged as a key partner in Google's push to display home listings directly within search results. In June, HouseCanary and Google expanded their initiative nationally, announcing plans to bring HouseCanary-powered home listing ads to all 50 states.
