Huawei and DeepSeek Challenge Nvidia with Open-Source AI Chip Software
DeepSeek has made significant strides in its goal to develop technologies that can challenge Nvidia's dominance in the AI chip market. The company has publicly released software developed with Huawei Technologies Co. for programming AI chips, highlighting its collaboration with the Chinese company.
The software toolkit for Huawei’s Ascend accelerators is now open-source and free to download, as announced on WeChat. This includes TileLang, which serves as China's answer to Nvidia's CUDA - a widely-used software platform for developing AI. DeepSeek reportedly stated that Huawei provided full support in developing the programming infrastructure.
The two companies have also jointly advanced a 'supernode' solution based on 128 Ascend 950 chips, optimising both computation and communication. According to DeepSeek, establishing a high-level language is crucial for building an independent GPU software ecosystem.
