Huawei and DeepSeek Collaborate on Chip Programming Tools Amidst Nvidia Alternatives
Chinese AI firm DeepSeek has partnered with Huawei to develop chip programming tools optimized for Huawei's Ascend chips, reducing reliance on Nvidia. The partnership is the latest sign of Chinese tech firms deepening ties as they seek alternatives to the Nvidia ecosystem.
The programming infrastructure developed by DeepSeek includes compute and communication libraries, which are open-sourced for Huawei's Ascend platform. Huawei provided full support in developing the infrastructure, and the two companies jointly advanced a 'supernode' solution based on 128 Ascend 950 chips, optimizing both computation and communication.
DeepSeek highlighted the role of TileLang, a high-level open-source programming language for AI chips, in improving development efficiency and simplifying code logic. The company stated that establishing a universal, easy-to-program language is essential for building independent GPU software ecosystems.
