Huawei Fast-Tracks AI Chip Launch to Challenge Nvidia
Huawei has accelerated its plans to launch the Ascend 960DT AI chip, pushing its release date up to Q1 2027. The company originally planned to debut the chip in Q3 2027 but will now bring it forward due to advancements in performance.
The Ascend 960DT is a key component of Huawei's Peerium Computing Architecture, which aims to create a giant computer by linking hundreds of thousands of AI chips. This architecture relies on UnifiedBus to connect processors with memory, storage, and networking hardware.
Huawei's rotating chairman David Wang announced the updated timeline at the company's Huawei Connect conference. The accelerated launch raises questions about the broader systems based on the Ascend 960DT chip, as China tech analyst Rui Ma noted that a system previously announced would scale to 15,488 chips, but the new announcement only referred to 4,096 chips.
