Huawei Speeds Up AI Chip Production, Targets Nvidia
Huawei, the Chinese tech giant, is accelerating its push into artificial-intelligence computing equipment as it targets US-based Nvidia. Rotating chairman Eric Xu said that Huawei cannot produce enough AI chips to meet demand in China and has limited overseas sales.
Xu emphasized that testing of Huawei's Ascend 950DT AI chip had produced good results, and the company is discussing its use with Chinese AI model developers. He expects many of these developers to begin training models on systems using the chip next year.
Huawei plans to release its next-generation Ascend chips earlier than previously planned, with the 960DT chip ready in Q1 2027 and the 960PR ready in Q3 2027. The company aims to release a new generation of Ascend chips every year, with the 970 and 980 to follow in 2028 and 2029.
