Huawei Speeds Up Ascend 960DT Launch Amid Nvidia GPU Shortage
Huawei has moved up its release date for the Ascend 960DT chip to Q1 2027, nine months ahead of schedule. The company is targeting a specific performance milestone with this new chip: delivering roughly double the performance of its predecessor.
The current Atlas 950 SuperCluster already connects up to 256,000 accelerator cards, and Huawei's stated roadmap targets one million NPUs in a single logical system. This scale underscores the growing demand driving investment in AI-Powered Websites and tools built atop this expanding hardware base.
US export controls have blocked Chinese buyers from accessing top-tier Nvidia GPUs, including the H100. Huawei is moving to fill that gap with domestic silicon and its proprietary cluster architecture, announced at the conference.
