Huawei Unveils Atlas 960 SuperPoD to Boost AI Power Amid US Restrictions
Huawei has unveiled its latest technology to boost AI power and reduce China's reliance on US semiconductor companies. The Chinese tech giant introduced its Atlas 960 SuperPoD computing cluster, powered by Ascend 960 chips, which promises a significant improvement in training and inference for large-scale models.
The Atlas 960 SuperPoD is part of Huawei's strategy to build advanced artificial intelligence systems despite US semiconductor-related restrictions. It combines the company's UnifiedBus interconnect technology and Hi-ONE optical system to connect as many as 4,000 processors, extending high-speed optical connections deeper into the computing system.
The Atlas 960 SuperPoD promises a 2.3-fold and 2.5-fold improvement in training and inference for 10-trillion-parameter models compared to its predecessor Atlas 950 SuperPoD. This technology is crucial for China's AI development, as it reduces the country's reliance on US semiconductor companies like Nvidia.
