Hyundai Hires Nvidia to Accelerate ADAS Plans Amid Development Delays
Hyundai Motor Group has hit a roadblock in its development of an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) called Atria. The company originally targeted a late 2027 launch, but it's now been pushed back to late 2029.
This delay raises questions about Hyundai's ability to keep pace with industry leaders like Tesla and Chinese automakers that are rapidly advancing their ADAS capabilities.
To mitigate this risk, Hyundai is partnering with Nvidia to bring 'Level 2+' and 'Level 2++' features into its cars by 2028. These features will rely on cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors, which are generally cheaper than lidar technology.
The goal of this partnership is not to hand over the development of ADAS to Nvidia but rather to speed up the process and generate real-world driving data that can be used to improve Atria before its in-house launch in 2029.
