IBM Agrees to $54 Million Windfall for Poughkeepsie Town

The Town of Poughkeepsie has secured a significant financial windfall from IBM's proposed Quantum computing facility on its existing campus. The tech giant will pay the town $54 million, in addition to an annual payment of $1.8 million for the next 30 years under a Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement.

Town Supervisor Rebecca Edwards praised the agreement, stating that it 'gives us (the town) a clear sense that IBM is willing to partner with us in covering the much-needed capital projects the town is undertaking.' The funds will be used specifically for taxpayer protection, earmarked to cover costs associated with the new police and court facility.
