IBM is quietly working on two significant growth engines, one aimed at the plumbing of global interbank payments and the other focused on quantum hardware.

The company has developed a new adapter for the ISO 20022 messaging standard that links its Digital Asset Haven platform to Swift's shared ledger. This connection enables IBM to bridge conventional bank messaging with tokenized deposits, targeting cross-border interbank settlement.

A test group of 17 institutions is already running transactions in live operation, but shareholders are waiting for evidence that this technological head start can translate into measurable software and systems revenue.
