IBM and Lockheed Martin Launch Quantum Innovation Hub in Switzerland
IBM and Lockheed Martin have teamed up to establish a quantum innovation hub at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. The hub is part of an offset agreement between IBM, Lockheed Martin, and armasuisse, the Swiss Federal Office for Defence Procurement.
The hub will be equipped with Switzerland's first IBM Quantum System Two, which is expected to be deployed by the end of 2026. The system will use IBM's IBM Quantum Nighthawk processor and will be operated by IBM at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre in Lugano.
ETH Zurich will provide access to the system for local companies, startups, and academic institutions. Participants will also receive access to IBM's cloud-based quantum computing systems. Research is expected to cover areas such as chemistry, materials science, optimization, and financial services.
