IBM-Backed Quantum Foundry Lands $1 Billion Grant from US Department

Anderon, an IBM company, has received a $1 billion award under the CHIPS and Science Act from the US Department of Commerce. The grant will fund research and development at Anderon's 300mm pure-play quantum wafer foundry in Albany, New York.

This follows a May letter of intent between the Department of Commerce and IBM. Anderon has already demonstrated its ability to move research into commercial-grade production by running its first quantum wafers through its facility.

Anderon operates as a pure-play foundry, selling quantum wafer manufacturing to customers across the industry rather than one buyer. The foundry makes specialized wafers for superconducting qubit arrays, quantum input/output signaling, and readout signal chain components.
