IBM Backs BQP as Quantum-Accelerated Simulation Reaches Production

Physics acceleration startup BQP has secured an investment from IBM Ventures to further its simulation platform's operational deployment. The company, founded in 2020 as BosonQ Psi, offers software built to resolve full physics inside a decision-making window, aiming to accelerate engineering simulations.

BQP's platform, known as BQPhy, uses two solvers: QuantumNOW, which runs on CPU and GPU hardware customers already own, and the quantum-native solver QuantumMAX, still in development. The company plans to use the funding from IBM Ventures to expand its deployment of QuantumNOW, treating every deployment as a way to identify problems worth moving to a quantum processing unit.

BQP has seen significant growth since closing its seed round in 2025, with contracted and committed revenue increasing eightfold, customer base tripling, and platform users rising 20 times over the same period. The company is applying its engine to electric vehicle battery thermal management, funded by India's Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Indian School of Business.

Emily Fontaine, global head of IBM Ventures, noted that BQP's record in building software for hybrid quantum-classical computing has made it an attractive partner for IBM. BQP joined the IBM Quantum Network in 2023 and has received $8 million in funding from investors including Venn10 Capital and Monta Vista Capital.
