IBM Brings On-Premises AI Platform to Protect Corporate Data Sovereignty
IBM has released an on-premises AI platform that allows corporations to run artificial intelligence (AI) directly on their internal infrastructure. The key is enabling the use of AI in a controlled environment without moving sensitive data to external services.
The self-hosted deployment version, IBM Bob, enables the use of agentic AI across software development and modernization. This platform can be run on infrastructure managed by corporations, allowing them to directly control data residency, security policies, and AI governance.
Corporations can operate IBM Bob even in isolated environments, running models in their own spaces using licensed supported models or connecting to external model services that support IBM Bob. This shift is driven by growing demands for AI sovereignty, with Futurum Research predicting hybrid and edge deployments will account for 44% of the AI infrastructure market by 2030.
IBM emphasized that corporations' software modernization environments do not exist on a single cloud, but rather across multiple systems, private clouds, and external clouds. IBM Bob aims to deploy AI-based development and modernization capabilities into each corporation's existing infrastructure and data environment instead of consolidating data in a specific cloud.
