IBM Expands AI Platform with Self-Hosted Deployment Options
IBM has expanded its AI-powered software development platform, IBM Bob, to include self-hosted deployment options. This move aims to help enterprises maintain control over sensitive code and data while adopting AI technology.
The platform, which was previously cloud-based, can now be deployed on-premises, in private-cloud environments, or even in air-gapped situations where security is paramount. According to IBM, this flexibility will enable organizations to bring AI capabilities directly to their existing infrastructure, reducing the need to move sensitive data outside of their controlled environments.
A report from Futurum Research projects that hybrid and edge deployments will capture 44% of the AI infrastructure market by 2030 as organizations prioritize sovereign control alongside ecosystem connectivity. IBM Bob's self-hosted deployment option is designed for organizations with strict security and compliance requirements, allowing them to govern AI systems while maintaining data residency.
The Calculus of AI Sovereignty report published by IBM's Institute for Business Value in June 2026 found that 68% of surveyed executives struggle with meeting data residency and sovereignty requirements across geographies. By enabling self-hosted deployment, IBM Bob addresses these challenges and empowers enterprises to run supported models on premises.
