IBM Integrates Swift Blockchain and Offers On-Premises Option for Digital Asset Haven
IBM has expanded its Digital Asset Haven platform to include two new features for financial institutions managing digital assets. The company's clients can now connect to Swift's blockchain-based shared ledger through a beta ISO 20022 Messaging Adapter feature.
The adapter allows institutions to process tokenized deposit transactions using standard ISO 20022 payment message formats, rather than blockchain-specific workflows. This connection is significant because Swift operates a network connecting 12,500 financial institutions across more than 200 markets.
Seventeen institutions are currently piloting tokenized deposit transactions on the platform, and financial institutions participating in the program have tested tokenized deposits on the Swift shared ledger with IBM Digital Asset Haven. This collaboration is part of the industry's shift towards a new era where tokenized and traditional assets will need to move side by side, as stated by Tom McPherson, General Manager of IBM Z and LinuxONE.
IBM has also introduced an on-premises beta deployment option for Digital Asset Haven. This deployment runs on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE infrastructure within a client's data center without public cloud dependency. The on-premises version includes hardware-backed security using IBM Crypto Express HSMs, with configurations designed to achieve 99.999999% availability based on IBM internal measurements.
The platform launched with SaaS and hybrid deployment options in October 2025, and institutions interested in the on-premises beta can join a waitlist. The financial services industry's modernization efforts are evident, as J.P. Morgan Payments data indicates that 93% of financial institutions are modernizing their payments infrastructure.
