IBM Lands $2B Federal Funding for Quantum Chip Facility Amid Analyst Expectations

IBM has secured a $1 billion research and development grant from the U.S. Commerce Department to establish Anderon, the nation's inaugural quantum chip manufacturing facility.

The new facility will be located in upstate New York and utilize advanced 300-millimeter wafer production technology.

Mukesh Kare, who currently leads IBM's semiconductor operations as general manager, has been appointed as Anderon's chief executive officer.

Kare stated that the new facility would transition quantum computing technology 'from research breakthroughs to real-world impact.'
