IBM Launches Self-Hosted AI Platform Amid Modest Growth
IBM has launched a self-hosted deployment option for its IBM Bob platform, effective October 1, 2026. The new feature allows enterprises to run the AI platform on-premises, in private clouds, sovereign clouds, or air-gapped environments. IBM emphasized that this move targets businesses handling sensitive data or regulated workflows that cannot be moved to public AI platforms. The company also highlighted a June 2026 report indicating that 68% of executives find meeting data-residency requirements challenging.
Financially, IBM reported modest growth in the second quarter of 2026, with revenue reaching $17.16 billion, up 1.10% year-over-year. However, this fell short of the $17.46 billion consensus estimate by 1.66%. Adjusted earnings per share were $2.93, while the operating margin stood at 17.00%, with net income attributable to common shareholders at $2.165 billion.
Looking ahead, IBM has set a preliminary date of October 21, 2026, for its third-quarter 2026 earnings release. The company also announced the election of Frank Baker to its board, bringing experience from Siris Capital, which has invested over $9 billion in technology and data-focused companies.
As of October 6, 2026, IBM's stock was trading at EUR 197.97, up 0.41% from the prior close. This places the stock 12.96% above its 52-week low of EUR 175.26 but 32.39% below its high of EUR 292.80.
