IBM Quantum Foundry Hits Major Milestone as First Wafers Run Through Facility

IBM has made significant progress in its quantum foundry project after receiving a $1 billion CHIPS and Science Act award from the U.S. Department of Commerce on September 16, 2026.

The funding was part of a $2 billion cash commitment from IBM to Anderon, with an additional $1 billion in intellectual property, assets, and skilled personnel.

Anderon is a standalone quantum foundry structured as an IBM company, focused on manufacturing quantum hardware for vendors rather than internal research.
