IBM Secures $2 Billion Boost for Quantum Computing Ambitions

IBM's Anderon unit has finalized a $1 billion CHIPS Act award from the U.S. Department of Commerce, funding research and development in quantum wafer manufacturing.

The deal is significant for IBM as it positions the company deeper in the hardware infrastructure needed to support a broader quantum-computing ecosystem.

Anderon, based in Albany, New York, operates a 300-millimeter pure-play quantum wafer foundry designed to serve customers across the quantum technology industry.

IBM is also committing an additional $1 billion of its own capital to Anderon, effectively doubling the scale of investment tied to the project.
