IBM Stock Bounces Back, But Recovery Remains Uncertain
IBM's stock price has experienced a fragile rebound after a brutal quarter. Shares closed at €194.74, up 1.31% on the day and 3.34% for the week.
However, the company remains 25.07% in the red for the year and 33.50% below its June peak of €292.85. The stock's resilience is a cause for concern as it may be merely a pause in a longer descent.
The reorganization of IBM's relationship with UniCredit, where Accenture took over operational management of the banking infrastructure serving roughly 20 million customers across 13 European markets, is seen as a deliberate act of focus. This aligns with IBM's 'platform-first' strategy, shifting away from on-site personnel toward licensing and software with fatter margins.
Regulatory tailwinds are expected to add to the appeal, particularly with the EU's DORA regulation generating compliance-driven contracts across the European banking sector.
