IBM Unveils Dual-Architecture Processor for Enterprise Computing
International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) has unveiled an advanced processor designed to bring Arm-native applications to future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems. The new dual-architecture processor is part of a collaboration between IBM and Arm Holdings plc (ARM), aimed at providing enterprises with more software choices for mission-critical workloads.
The processor, built on a 2-nanometer process, features 11 high-performance cores running above 5.7 GHz, artificial intelligence (AI) inference accelerators, an on-chip data processing unit, and a large cache designed for demanding enterprise workloads.
IBM's latest innovation enables Arm-native Linux environments to run alongside z/OS and Linux on IBM Z systems, providing enterprises with greater flexibility to run different applications on the same system. The processor also supports features such as fault detection and recovery, advanced encryption, secure key management, and AI acceleration.
