International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) has announced an advanced processor designed to bring Arm-native applications to future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems. The processor, built in collaboration with Arm Holdings plc (ARM), will enable enterprises to run Arm-native Linux environments alongside z/OS and Linux on IBM Z.

This breakthrough technology is expected to give businesses greater flexibility to run different applications on the same system, eliminating the need for separate cores. The processor features 11 high-performance cores running above 5.7 GHz, artificial intelligence (AI) inference accelerators, an on-chip data processing unit, and a large cache designed for demanding enterprise workloads.

The IBM Z and LinuxONE systems can scale to hundreds of cores and tens of terabytes of memory. This innovation reflects the company's continued efforts to expand the capabilities of its enterprise computing platforms.
