IBM Quantum has released its fastest quantum processing unit (QPU) to date, the Nighthawk r2. This processor features a high-speed dissipative qubit reset framework that eliminates long inter-circuit idle periods, achieving a maximum circuit throughput of over 100,000 circuits per second, a 25x speedup over IBM's Heron QPU fleet.

The 120-qubit Nighthawk r2 is built on a square-lattice architecture and includes high-dynamic-range tunable couplers. It has achieved a significant reduction in initialization error, with a 25x suppression of state initialization errors while maintaining Heron-class 2-qubit gate error rates.

The processor has demonstrated accurate observable estimation via Probabilistic Error Amplification (PEA) on circuits containing over 7,500 gates. It has also shown beyond-classical computational utility through doped Clifford sampling advantage experiments and delivered a 12x speedup for physical neutron-scattering simulations.
