IBM Ventures Backs Physics Acceleration Firm BQP Amid Explosive Growth
IBM Ventures has invested in BQP, a Syracuse-based physics acceleration company, bringing its total funding to $8 million. This investment extends a relationship between IBM and BQP that began in 2023 when BQP joined the IBM Quantum Network.
Venn10 Capital and existing backer Monta Vista Capital also participated in this round of funding. The size of IBM's commitment was not disclosed, but it is a significant vote of confidence in BQP's software, which speeds up engineering physics calculations for applications such as satellite trajectory and battery heat management.
BQP has seen its contracted and committed revenue rise eightfold since its 2025 seed round, with customers tripling. Its production solver, QuantumNOW, runs on existing CPUs and GPUs, while a quantum-native version is still in development.
According to Abhishek Chopra, BQP's Founder and CEO, the industry has been focusing on hardware solutions for years, but it was always a software problem. By earning its way into engineering workflows, BQP is now poised to push beyond defense applications into electric vehicle battery thermal management work in India.
