IBM Wins $1 Billion Award for Quantum Wafer Foundry
IBM's subsidiary Anderon has won a US$1 billion award from the U.S. government to build a pure-play quantum wafer foundry.
The facility, which will be the first in the U.S. focused solely on quantum wafers for chip manufacturing, is expected to receive federal funding of US$1 billion.
IBM plans to invest an additional US$1 billion alongside the federal funding to support quantum wafer production capacity and related infrastructure.
This award is seen as a key part of IBM's strategy to supply core hardware for next-generation computing infrastructure, which includes artificial intelligence (AI) and hybrid cloud solutions.
