IBM Wins Retaliation Lawsuit Against Former Employee
IBM has won a significant victory in a long-running employment dispute. The tech giant defeated claims from Jerome Beard, a former software sales representative who alleged he was fired in retaliation for filing a previous race discrimination lawsuit against the company and participating in another employee's related trial.
Beard worked at IBM between 1983 and 2023 before being let go. He claimed that his supervisors' decision to credit another team for a deal involving his client and his eventual firing were tied to his earlier lawsuit and trial testimony.
Judge Vincent L. Briccetti of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled in IBM's favor, granting summary judgment to the company on Tuesday, September 16, 2026.
