IBM's Bob Coding Agent Now Available for Self-Hosted Deployment
IBM's stock surged by 5% on Wednesday after it announced that its Bob coding agent is now available for self-hosted deployment in air-gapped and sovereign-cloud environments. This move targets regulated enterprises that require control over data residency, security policies, governance, and software development workflows.
The self-hosted option allows these organizations to run supported models on their own infrastructure or connect Bob to approved external AI services in hybrid configurations. Neel Sundaresan, General Manager of AI and Automation at IBM, stated that the future of enterprise AI will depend on security, governance, and sovereignty.
This announcement comes after CEO Arvind Krishna framed Bob as the front door to a larger platform during the Q2 2026 earnings call. The self-hosted option carries this pathway into regulated accounts where IBM already sells.
