IBM's PowerSC Tool Bolsters Security Across Heterogeneous Environments

IBM's PowerSC tool is designed to provide security and compliance capabilities for IBM i environments as well as AIX on Power and Linux on both Power and X86 systems. According to Anima Varshney, the product manager of PowerSC, it can be thought of as a collection of complementary security and compliance capabilities managed through a unified platform.

PowerSC supports native IBM i intrusion detection capabilities, which are set within IBM i Navigator, and integrates with SIEM tools to help correlate cross-platform attacks. It also provides real-time monitoring of security policy configuration changes, file integrity monitoring, and automatic audits against policy standards for various security frameworks.

The tool ships with ClamAV, the open-source virus and malware detection engine, which users can configure and manage from the PowerSC console. Additionally, it offers auto-remediation capabilities that allow the product to automatically fix any failures, as well as propagation policies across multiple VMs with a single click.

PowerSC has also recently added quantum safety features to ensure customers are running quantum-safe cryptographic algorithms, preventing them from using outdated crypto algos. The tool's integration with IBM's Copy Services Manager and Cyber Vault enables ransomware protection by automatically detecting threats and shutting down affected VMs.
