IBM's Technical Picture Improves as Stock Nears Key Resistance
The technology sector remains narrow in its market leadership within the S&P 500. Only two sectors, health care and information technology, have stocks trading at both 4-week and 52-week highs.
In contrast, IBM has significantly lagged behind the broader technology sector since the September 14 close, falling 7.1% over that period while the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) gained 6.5%. This leaves a performance gap of roughly 13.6 percentage points between IBM and XLK.
Despite this divergence, IBM's technical structure is gradually improving. The stock has held above its support zone and moved back above the 50-day SMA, keeping the path toward resistance at $242 open.
