IBM has partnered with OpenAI to bring the AI company's models and tools to more enterprise customers through IBM's consulting business.

The companies will jointly market AI offerings and develop industry-specific solutions for financial services, government, telecommunications, and retail. This partnership comes after a similar alliance was announced between IBM and Anthropic less than a year ago.

IBM plans to integrate OpenAI's latest models, including GPT-5.6, Codex, and ChatGPT Work, into its AI platform for consultants, helping clients deploy AI across core business operations. The training will focus on OpenAI's Codex, API, cybersecurity, and consultative solution credentials.

This agreement also expands the existing relationship between IBM and OpenAI, which previously launched the cybersecurity-focused OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program in June. IBM said that adoption of AI is complementing demand for its mainframe business.
