ICE Raids Leave Community in Fear as Four 'Vanish' at Concord Home Depot
Immigrant rights advocates in Concord, California are calling for Home Depot to denounce ICE raids at their stores nationwide. At least four people have 'vanished' after being detained by federal immigration agents outside a Home Depot store on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred when unmarked vehicles drove into the parking lot, and individuals wearing patches with 'ERO,' the Enforcement and Removal Operations division under ICE, began detaining up to five people. The advocates do not have any information about the names or whereabouts of those detained.
Brian Ibarra, coordinator for Concord Immigrant Protections Network (CIPN), stated that 'they just vanished.' He added that once they find out who was taken, they plan to offer them resources and assistance. The advocates held a protest outside the Home Depot on Thursday, chanting slogans like 'No justice, no fear. Immigrants are welcome here.'
Cristina Guerrero, with Monument Impact, emphasized that people who wait at Home Depot for work opportunities are already vulnerable to discrimination and exploitation. She noted that they often have to go out early every morning and put themselves at risk in hopes of getting a chance to work.
