Idaho National Guard Company Equips for Modern Warfare in 1952

The Idaho National Guard's 126th Engineer Treadway Bridge Company was equipped with some of the most advanced machinery of its time, including a D-7 Caterpillar tractor. In January 1952, Pvt. Burton Castle was getting training on how to operate the massive vehicle under the guidance of Master Sgt. Delmont E. Hockersmith and Sgt. 1st Class Donald E. Allen. The company's equipment also included a $25,000 mobile machinist's workshop, a cargo truck, a complete mess hall setup, and various weaponry.

Additionally, the unit would have two 25-foot twin-screw utility boats with .50 caliber machine guns mounted on each. This was part of an effort to prepare the company for whatever missions they might face.
