Iger, Kushner Make Record-Breaking Bet on Lakers
Former Disney CEO Bob Iger is taking on a new venture as co-owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, along with American businessman Josh Kushner. The sale was reportedly finalized for a record-breaking price of over $12 billion, making it one of the most expensive sports franchise deals in history.
Iger has extensive experience in the entertainment industry, having overseen ESPN during his tenure as Disney CEO from 2005 to 2020 and again from 2022 until March of this year. He helped launch the company's direct-to-consumer platform in 2025 and played a key role in securing several major acquisitions, including Pixar in 2006 and Marvel in 2009.
Lakers legend Magic Johnson spoke highly of Iger, stating that 'Laker fans, you couldn’t have two better owners.' Current star Luka Doncic expressed his excitement for the new ownership and its potential to bring a championship back to LA.
