Imdelltra + Imfinzi Combo Delivers Survival Benefit in Small Cell Lung Cancer

Amgen and AstraZeneca have announced that their cancer treatment combination has improved survival rates in patients with small cell lung cancer, a fast-spreading and aggressive form of the disease. The Phase 3 DeLLphi-305 trial tested the use of Amgen's Imdelltra (tarlatamab) paired with AstraZeneca's Imfinzi (durvalumab) as a maintenance treatment in newly diagnosed patients. This combination met its main goals, showing a statistically significant improvement in overall survival and progression-free survival compared to Imfinzi alone.

The trial focused on extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, which has few options once it advances. Imdelltra is a bispecific T-cell engager that grabs hold of the cancer target DLL3 with one arm and a patient's own immune T-cells with the other, pulling the two together to destroy the tumor.

This result pushes Imdelltra toward use in newly diagnosed patients, where the commercial opportunity is far larger. The companies will present detailed data at a future medical meeting and share it with regulators.
