Incidents Plague Community: Jewelry Theft, ID Scams, Homeless Encounters
A string of incidents plagued the community between September 14 and 20. Police reported that a Fox Meadow Road resident had assorted jewelry stolen from her house on September 18.
ID theft was also rampant, with multiple residents falling victim to scams. On September 14, a Carthage Road resident's credit card account was compromised, and an unknown person set up fraudulent phone accounts in his name. The next day, a Garth Road store customer made purchases using a stolen credit card number.
Another scam involved a Park Road woman who had her American Airlines rewards points used to buy a $300 gift card. A Fenimore Road couple was contacted by someone claiming to be from American Express, saying that a fraudulent account had been opened in their name.
On September 19, a homeless man on Depot Place refused assistance, while a woman sleeping on a bench inside Village Hall also declined help. An elderly woman dropped off at a bank on Wilmot Road appeared disoriented and upset, but claimed to have an account issue.
