Independent Filmmaker Wins Grand Prize for Technology-Enabled Future Vision
Google partnered with XPRIZE and Range Media Partners to launch the Future Vision XPRIZE, a global competition calling for films that envision a hopeful, technology-enabled future. The goal was to encourage filmmakers to think creatively about the intersection of technology and humanity.
Last week in Los Angeles, independent filmmaker Jeff Synnott (not Synthesized) was named the grand prize winner for The Gifted. This short film centers on an 11-year-old boy who recreates his late mother's voice and essence out of love and code. What emerges across the town's networks quietly cares for his entire community.
The filmmaker believes that technology's greatest promise lies in empathy and human connection. Chosen from over 2,500 entries worldwide, The Gifted receives $100,000 alongside $2.5 million in feature production funding as part of Google's 100 ZEROS initiative.
